🌤️ What is Weather?

Weather is the condition of the atmosphere over a short period of time. It changes every day. Some days are hot, some are rainy, others are cold or windy.

☀️ Examples of weather:

• Hot and sunny

• Cloudy

• Rainy

• Cold and windy

🍧 We eat ice cream and watermelon when it's hot.
☕ We drink hot tea when it’s cold.

🌀 What are Seasons?

A season is a time of the year with special weather. In Botswana, we have four seasons. Each lasts three months.

📅 Seasons in Botswana:

• 🌸 Spring – September, October, November

• ☀️ Summer – December, January, February

• 🍂 Autumn – March, April, May

• ❄️ Winter – June, July, August

Let’s explore each season with pictures and facts!

🌸 1. Spring

🌼 Spring comes after winter.
🌤️ The weather becomes warmer, but nights are still cool.
🌬️ It can be windy and dusty.
🌧️ We often get our first rains in this season.

🌱 Nature and Farming:

• Plants begin to grow new leaves and flowers.

• 🌾 Some trees and crops are planted.

• 👦 Early ploughing and planting begin.

☀️ 2. Summer

🔥 Summer is the hottest season.
☀️ Days are sunny and long, and nights are short and warm.
🌧️ Rain falls often.
🌿 Plants grow fast and green.

• Main planting time in Botswana.

• Rain helps crops grow.

• 🌻 Fields become full of green plants and colourful flowers.

🍂 3. Autumn

🍁 Days start getting shorter and cooler.
🌙 Nights become longer.
🌦️ Rainfall becomes less and less.
🍂 Leaves change colour and fall.

🧺 Activities in Autumn:

• Time for harvesting fruits and vegetables.

• People eat watermelon and green mealies.

• Farmers return crop remains to the soil.

❄️ 4. Winter

🧊 Winter is the coldest season.
🌬️ There’s usually no rain.
🌙 Nights are very long, and days are short.
🍃 Many trees lose their leaves.

🪵 What Happens in Winter?

• Farmers do winter ploughing – they turn leftover plants into the soil.

• People wear warm clothes.

• We drink warm drinks and stay near heat.

🐄 Extra Fact: Calving Time

During summer, it is also the time when many animals like cows, goats, and sheep give birth to their babies.
