By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
✅ Give examples of human rights
✅ Identify rights that protect us from discrimination
✅ Say who may be treated unfairly and why
✅ Talk about problems caused when rights are denied

π§ What Are Human Rights?
Human rights are things that every person is allowed to have or do because they are human.
They help us:
-
Live safely
-
Be treated fairly
-
Grow up healthy and happy
-
Learn and go to school
-
Speak freely and be heard
π️ Examples of Human Rights
Here are some important rights that you have:
✅ Right to life – to be safe and protected
✅ Right to food – to eat and not go hungry
✅ Right to education – to go to school and learn
✅ Right to shelter – to live in a home
✅ Right to health – to visit a doctor or clinic
✅ Right to be treated equally – to not be judged by your gender, colour, or religion
✅ Right to choose your religion – to go to any church or pray in your own way
✅ Right to express yourself – to speak and be listened to
π§ Think: What are three rights that you enjoy every day?
π§π½π¦½ Who May Be Treated Unfairly?
Sadly, some people are discriminated against, which means they are not treated equally or with respect.
This happens to:
-
Girls (not allowed to go to school in some places)
-
Poor children
-
Disabled people (e.g., cannot access buildings)
-
People of a certain skin colour or religion
-
Sick people or those with HIV/AIDS
π¬ “Discrimination is when people are treated unfairly just because they are different.”
π« What Happens When Rights Are Denied?
If people are not given their rights, they may:
-
Live in poverty
-
Miss school or be forced to work
-
Go hungry or sleep in the streets
-
Become sick without help
-
Turn to begging or stealing
π️ How Religion Helps Protect People’s Rights
Many religions teach people to:
-
Treat others with kindness and respect
-
Care for the sick, poor, and orphans
-
Build schools and clinics
-
Live in peace and unity
π Why Are Human Rights Important?
Human rights help us to:
-
Live peacefully
-
Go to school
-
Get help when we are sick
-
Be protected from harm
-
Be treated fairly, no matter who we are
π± "Every child deserves to grow in love, peace, and safety."
π Activities to Try!
-
Draw pictures showing your top 3 human rights
-
Write a short story about a child who is treated unfairly — and how it can be made right
-
Act out: A scene where someone is denied a right and another person stands up for them
